Till Death Do Us Part - Final Cut

This is our AS media coursework. I like our piece because it is individual and different and took us a lot of time to work upon.

I feel that all the editing and scenes fit in well with eachother. However the negatives are that when we were editing it on the Mac it didnt come out this dark, so i am hoping that the better quality one isnt this dark otherwise we will be marked down.

Survey for Film

Music we used in our film

This is the Chopin Waltz track we used at the beginning of our film. We believed that it was best for the film because we wanted to use the radio and decided that it gave our women more of a personality. The Jazz track made us believe that the audience could relate to the women and the audience would have to keep guessing what was going to happen.

This is the Honorable discharge track which is played throughout the whole things from the middle onwards. I like this track because it is jumpy and fast, but is also slow. I feel that it fits in with the rest of my film, and so I am glad we decided to use this track.

Production company sign

this is the sign we are using at the beginning of our film. this is because we needed to use something to bring the film in, rather than starting straight away with the film starting. Averielle played around with different font types, and then we decided to use a knife as this was our type of film, making people understand that this is a horror-thriller subgenre. We played around with different backgrounds starting with a white background with red text.

We used red text because we decided that red was associated with horror thrillers, and therefore decided that this was the best thing for our horror thriller film.

We decided to go with the black background as it looked better when placed with our film, although we wanted the red text to be shown more on the white background.

Survey Questions

When we completed our film, we needed people to analyse it so that we were able to get feedback and information on what they thought was good. I decided to think of some research questions which I could use to help get analysis on my film.

  • What do you think the genre is?
  • Why do you think this?
  • What type of media institution (channel 4, WarnerBrothers, Disney etc) might distribute our media product?
  • Why do you think this?
  • Who do you think is the target audience - male, female, old, young?
  • Did this media product target you?
  • Did you connect with the characters?
  • Do you think we made the right choice of music?
  • What is your favorite part of the clip?
  • What do you think could be improved?

Filming the Killing Scene.

It has been very difficult being able to create the killing scene in which we want to look lifelike and realistic. At the beginning, we realized it was going to be difficult because we were unsure how to make it look like she was going to be stabbing him when she cant go too close with the knife. The first try we used the shadows on the wall, this turned out difficult, because Averielle's hand looked limp and unrealistic. therefore we decided to have her bringing her hand up above her head, from Josh's point of View. This helped us establish a new shot which we hadn't used before. This idea came from Alfred Hitchcock's film 'Psycho'. This is the easiest way to create a stab scene without having to show the audience him being dead.
